Using Cultural Probes ('Diary Studies') to Gather User Information
- Gerry Gaffney

Date: Nov 4
Time Frame:9:00-12:00

Description:
Cultural probes provide a way to explore the world of our users in a way that traditional techniques can't. For example, we may want to know how people feel about technology, or how they interact with family members or other people. One way to get this sort of information is to have users complete diaries, take photos, and keep scrap-books over a period of time. This workshop will describe how to conduct a successful cultural probe. It will explain how to:
¡ì prepare appropriate materials
¡ì recruit and brief participants
¡ì conduct initial follow-up interviews
¡ì conduct final de-briefing
¡ì analyze the data gathered to create personas and scenarios
