Doug Walston is Director of User Interface & Industrial Design
for Motorola¡¯s Mobile Devices business. Based in Beijing, Doug
heads up the business¡¯ regional design studio, leading product
and UI design strategies for the China market. Doug and his
team also work with Motorola¡¯s global team of designers to
define strategies across different product categories and
classes of user interfaces.
Prior to this role, Doug served as Director of User Interface
Design based in Chicago. He lead a diverse team of usability
experts, interaction designers and information architects tasked
with elevating Motorola¡¯s design philosophy and increasing
usability of products in the global device portfolio. He also
lead development Motorola¡¯s next-generation user interface for
devices based on Linux+Java -- a key platform supporting the
company¡¯s global software strategy.
Doug joined Motorola¡¯s Consumer Experience Design team in 2001
as Design Manager of Messaging and Internet Connectivity,
building on his previous experience as Director of Information
Architecture for Show&Tell, a Boston-based Web agency. He was
also principal and founder of Blue Parrot, an interactive
consultancy in Austin, Texas.
Doug holds an MBA in Marketing and Entrepreneurship from the
University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelors of Science degree
in Industrial Design from the University of Illinois,
Urbana-Champaign.
