Seven years ago, Robert left a position with Sony in Belgium to help establish a team of interaction designers, information architects, and usability specialists at Quarry ! a surprising move at the time, as few marketing agencies had even heard of these fields. Since then, Quarry has built one of the top user experience teams in Canada, serving clients across North America and Europe and including such names as FedEx and RIM (BlackBerry). As Practice Director, Robert helps to pioneer and refine methods for design and usability while employing these methods hands-on through client projects. For instance, Robert's team was an early advocate of ethnographic research and personas: as a result of the expertise they've gained, he has made numerous contributions to the field through publications such as The Persona Lifecycle.
Robert enjoys sharing his 15 years of experience by writing, speaking at conferences, and lecturing at universities. He has presented often at the annual UPA conference and at local chapters, as well as at events for organizations such as CHI and STC. After a terrific experience at UF2005, Robert is pleased to have been invited back for UF2006 and looks forward to reconnecting with China's energetic usability community.
