Despite mobile services have been there for almost a decade, there are still lots of usability and user experience issues that need to be improved- through trial and error as well as lots of studies, we have gained some experience on what are the problems and barriers in service usage.

Service usability is an area with lots of improvement to make; there are still lots of problems related to basic issues, such as lack of consistency, which still today is possibly the biggest problem in mobile portal usability. Poor information of context and double selections also cause problems for users. With big color displays we have faced new challenges: When pages are very graphical, the page download time may be longer but this is not problem only in relation to time, but also cost for the user.

The two biggest barriers in mobile service use are cost and battery life- cost of services is perceived to be high and even worse is that users cannot predict the cost. In relation to service design we can either improve the current situation or make things worse.
