This presentation attempts to take a economic perspective of software design (especially for systems of great complexity). Some insights are provided why software production has become unnecessarily costly, and why proposals are provided to organizations and design groups how to embrace these economic factors into their UCD process.
• Is there a way to make "economics of scale" also work for software design and production?
• What drives the inflation of software systems over time?
• Occam's Razor: How complexity evolves and how to manage it?
• 20/80 rule in design
• Outsource some components? – build efficient supply chains in the byte world
• "Retail UCD" and "Wholesale UCD"?
• Etc.
