Perhaps "internationally homeless" best describes Dennis Poon. Born in Hong Kong in 1968, Dennis left for England at age fifteen. After obtaining his Bachelors degree in Graphic Information Design from the University of Westminster and his Masters degree in Computer Related Design from the Royal College of Art in London, he has lived in the Netherlands, the United States, Sweden, Belgium, Singapore, and China.
Despite his nomadic lifestyle, Dennis' path to an art and design career was straightforward. His talent for the arts was realized at an early age. The turning point of this design career came in 1989 with his internship at Studio Dumbar in the Netherlands. Trained under Gert Dumbar, Dennis has worked with many aspiring designers (including R. Oxenaar (the designer of early Dutch banknotes), and the "Dutch" graphic design style of the late 80's has remained a major influence in his work.
Dennis' work, which can be described as "Schoon" in Dutch or "Clean" in English, is as diverse as the places where he has lived. Type design, graphic design, motion graphics, interactive media, interactive installations and interaction design are all part of his ever-expanding repertoire.
Other past professional experiences include running SWATdesign in San Francisco, working at IDEO Product Development as an interaction designer, at Icon Medialab as a process coach and at Philips Design as a senior Interactive Design consultant. Dennis joined Motorola in late 2004 to spearhead their User Interface group in Beijing.
