P.L. Patrick Rau is the Director of the Institute of Human Factors and Ergonomics, and a Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at Tsinghua University in Beijing. He has founded and directs HCI and Usability research center at Tsinghua University. He was a Visiting Scholar at Microsoft Research Asia in China, Visiting Professor at the Aachen University of Technology in Germany, and a Visiting Professor at the Chuo University in Japan.
His research themes include cross-cultural design, mobile advertisement, universal design, and warning processing and driving safety. Prof. Rau has published papers on these topics in the HCI and related journals and conferences. He is the chair of the China Board of the coming HCI International 2007 held in Beijing. He is a member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, the Association for Computing Machinery, China Ergonomics Society, and Taiwan Ergonomics Society.
