Thyra, who has worked at IBM for almost 21 years, currently is in the Information Management software group working on enterprise search technologies and analytics. She has been instrumental in validating product and UI direction, user roles, and role/task pairings across a number of different industries for multiple product solutions. She has been using customer stories and storyboarding as an integral part of her design process. Thyra also uses a variety of other techniques such as task analysis and contextual inquiry, requirements gathering and prioritization, prototyping and design evaluation, all based on user-centered design principles.
Thyra is an active member of the Usability Professionals’ Association and is currently serving a third term on its board of directors, and has been President for the past 2 years. She has been active in UPA since 1992, has been active in STC and SIGCHI for a number of years, and presents and publishes her work on a fairly regular basis. Thyra has a Ph.D. in experimental psychology from North Carolina State University, and is the author of 10 patents relating to user interface design.
